Yes, physical therapy can help with Sciatica. Sciatica is pain that occurs with irritation or pressure of the sciatic nerve, radiating from the low back down the hips, buttocks and legs. Physical Therapy helps decrease pain by addressing the causes and improving function. Physical therapists focus on posture correction and teach you correct movement patterns to decrease pressure on the sciatic nerve. Emphasis is given to strengthening muscles of the lower back, hips and legs. Tension in muscles around the sciatic nerve is reduced with stretching and flexibility exercises. Pain relieving modalities like ultrasound and electric stimulation can be used to help control pain symptoms.
